Arrow To My Heart

As the saying goes, “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” So too does love.

The moment I thought I had it all figured out, someone came along and showed me that I didn’t have a clue. She shot an Arrow To My Heart that changed everything.

Verse 1:

You know I really thought I’d figured out

The path that I was walkin’ down with you.

But the best laid plans of mice and men

Have a simple way of finding our truth.

It ain’t always what we wanted

When we picked up our sights,

But it’s got a funny way

Of always working out alright.

Chorus:

But it ain’t easy loving me.

Girl, I know the pain that I can sometimes be.

But I swear to you my love is true.

Like an arrow to my heart, it’s through and through.

Verse 2:

When we met I thought I’d never love again

Because my past was still my truth.

But you unlocked a door I didn’t know was there,

Inside my heart, that beats for you.

With the flood gates wide and open

I was never turning back.

Because the best laid plans of mice and men

Are sometimes all we have.

Chorus:

But it ain’t easy loving me.

Girl, I know the pain that I can sometimes be.

But I swear to you my love is true.

Like an arrow to my heart, it’s through and through.

Verse 3:

With the flood gates wide and open

I was never turning back.

Because the best laid plans of mice and men

Are sometimes all we have.

Chorus:

But it ain’t easy loving me.

Girl, I know the pain that I can sometimes be.

But I swear to you my love is true.

Like an arrow to my heart, it’s through and through.

Lyric: Arrow To My Heart
Lyric: Can't Write The Script

Can't Write the Script

I don’t fall easy, but when I do I fall fast and hard. When that happens, I do the only thing I know how to do – I write the script in my head and I start sprinting. It’s gotten me in trouble more than once.

I wrote Can’t Write The Script on my 33rd birthday as my way of acknowledging that love takes two; that no matter how well intentioned you think you are, no matter how much you care, it’s all irrelevant if your partner doesn’t feel the same way.

Verse 1:

I’m no stranger to heartbreak,

I’ve been crushed a time or two,

But at least I know that I can love.

I learned that meeting you.

I know the pain from you will pass,

I just really thought this time,

Maybe more so I was hoping

That I’d found my ride or die

To live beside.

Because I, I don’t fall easy,

But when I do it’s fast and hard,

Like the lightning lighting up the sky

You thundered through my heart.

There’s a fire deep inside of me

I didn’t know was there.

It’d been laying cold and dormant

Until you gave it a breath of air

Chorus:

Cause when it comes to love,

The only thing I know for sure is this:

You can feel it in your heart,

But you can never write the script.

And sometimes in life

Your best ain’t good enough to win.

So, pick your head up and move on.

That’s all that you can do my friend.

Verse 2:

The days have gotten pretty dark

Even though it’s summertime

But there’ll be light on the horizon

If I keep on keepin on.

I wish that I could change your mind

Because deep down inside I know

That all the embers you ignited

Could build an everlasting love.

But I know there’s no control,

Because you feel the way you do.

It didn’t match up with my heart,

But you were honest, fair, and true.

So, if you see me out just know

Behind my smile hide my tears.

I’ll pretend you didn’t break my heart,

As I drink away my fears

To forget the years.

Chorus:

Cause when it comes to love,

The only thing I know for sure is this:

You can feel it in your heart,

But you can never write the script.

And sometimes in life

Your best ain’t good enough to win.

So, pick your head up and move on.

That’s all that you can do my friend.

Lyric: Down The Line

Down the
Line

I wrote the first half of Down The Line when I was living with a woman I thought I was going to marry. What began as a song I wanted to use to propose to her turned into the song that helped me realize she wasn’t right for me.

This song isn’t for her. It’s for the woman out there I hope to meet one day who will love me as unconditionally as I love her.

Verse 1:

I’ve been running through this mad world,

Getting’ further down the line.

If I only learned a thing

It’s that you’ll never buy more time.

I know everybody’s searching,

And I’m searching just the same.

For a woman just like you

So I can give her my last name.

Through the darkness of the valley

And the calm before the storm,

You’ll be everything I need

So I can weather through one more.

I can tell you that I love you,

But it wouldn’t be the same,

Cause those words can do no justice

To the feelings that remain.

Chorus:

Be my lover, be my woman

And I’ll give to you my life.

I can’t promise you the world,

But girl, I promise that I’ll try.

Be my darling, be my angel,

And I’ll give you everything

That I can to be your man.

You’ve got my heart, now take my ring.

Verse 2:

Where we go it doesn’t matter,

Cause with you I’d run away.

We can travel hand in hand

Until we find a place to stay.

They say that home is where the heart is

And I feel it every day

I’m with you. I know it’s true,

Cause girl with you I’ve found my way.

And when I wake up in the morning

Girl I want you by my side.

As the sunlight hits your face

I’ll know that everything’s alright.

Cause I’ll go running through the valley

And come charging through the storm.

All I ask you in return

Is that you love me evermore.

Chorus:

So be my lover, be my woman

And I’ll give to you my life.

I can’t promise you the world,

But girl, I promise that I’ll try.

Be my darling, be my angel,

And I’ll give you everything

That I can to be your man.

You’ve got my heart, now take my ring.

Lyric: Helping Hand
Lyric: I Would Swear

Helping
Hand

At one point or another, we all need help. This song is about my journey to recognizing and admitting to myself that I needed help too. Shoutout to my friends, family, and Dr. J for being my Helping Hand

Verse 1:

I’ve been runnin round in circles,

I’ve been sprinting through the nights.

Out there chasing every tail

I see hiding in plain sight.

Findin nothing in the evenings

‘Cept this bottle in my hand

That I drank until it’s finished.

Just as empty as I am.

I don’t understand what happened.

I don’t know where I went wrong.

I just know one day I had it

And the next day it was gone.

If I’m honest I don’t even know

Exactly what it is.

Just keep hearin’ that it’s out there.

Seems to me like it’s a myth.

Chorus:

Lord, I ask you if it’s even

Just a fraction of the truth

Help me find my way to goodness.

Help me find my way to you.

Cause I’ve been tryin’, but I know now

That I need a helping hand

So that I can find my footing.

So that I can be a man.

Verse 2:

Like the dust in old El Paso

I’ll go flying with the wind,

Spinning round just like a cyclone

And landing right back here again.

But I’m a hoping and a prayin’

That some luck will come my way

And break me out this G-ddamned cycle

Land me on my feet someday.

When I’m there I hope I know it,

Hope that I can recognize

All the good things I’ve got going,

Working for me in my life.

Cause this life is so damn fleeting,

‘Fore you bling you’re at the end.

I’ve got no more time to waste,

So come with me, let’s go, my friend.

Chorus 2:

Lord, I ask you if it’s even

Just a fraction of the truth

Help me find my way to goodness.

Help me find my way to you.

Cause I’ve been tryin’, but I know now

That I need a helping hand

So that I can find my footing.

So that I can be a man.

I Would
Swear

This song is about one of the most memorable nights I’ve ever had…that I barely remember. Shout out to Tin Roof Nashville for setting the scene.

Verse 1:

Well, the last thing on my mind

When I saw you by the stage

Was that I could somehow fall in love

With a girl I met that day.

I was out there with my friends

Raisin’ hell and pickin’ fights

When I saw you looking over

From the corner of my eye.

Chorus 1:

I would swear if I’d been sober

That the moment that I did

Every other woman in the bar

Disappeared up in the wind.

And the only one left standing,

Only one that stood a chance

In my heart was walking over

To my friends. I’ll be G-ddamned

Verse 2:

So, I walked up to the bar

And got myself another drink

I’ll need a shot of liquid courage

To confirm you’re not a dream.

With your blue eyes like the ocean

And your brown hair like the sun

As it sets on the horizon

Stealing light from everyone.

Chorus 2:

I would swear if I’d been sober

That the moment that you came

Well, the stars aligned inside that bar

When you told me your first name.

And I knew I had to try

But didn’t think I’d stand a chance

Cause I knew that I’d regret it

If I didn’t ask for that dance.

Verse 3:

Well, the next thing I remember

We were dancin’ on the floor.

With my head up in the sky

I couldn’t ask for anymore.

We were laughing, we were smiling,

Bout as happy as can be,

When you looked me in the eyes

And pulled me close enough to lean.

Chorus 3:

I would swear if I’d been sober

That the moment that you did

Every woman that I’d ever loved

Disappeared up in the wind.

And the only one left standing,

Only one that stood a chance,

In my heart, was smilin’ back at me

When we kissed. I’ll be G-ddamned.

Lyric: So, Goodbye

So,
Goodbye

Met a girl, fell in love, and she did me dirty. About 6 months later, I woke up hungover and in a great mood, and about 5 minutes after that I finished writing this autobiographical account of kicking her lying, cheating ass out of my house. This song says it all, So, Goodbye!

Verse 1:

Darling I know that you wanted everything to be

Just the way that things had been before,

But after all the shit you done and things you said to me

I don’t ever want to see you anymore.

Chorus:

But it’s alright

Cause I’m better off without you in my life.

You and all your lies.

All the cheatin’, schemin’, stealin’ to survive.

I don’t want you, I don’t need you,

Hope I never have to see you,

So, goodbye.

Verse 2:

When I told you to get out you should a seen your face,

You didn’t think that I would have the strength,

But you picked a fight you couldn’t win,

So I kicked you out the house again

And I changed the keys and locked you out my place.

Chorus:

But it’s alright

Cause I’m better off without you in my life.

You and all your lies.

All the cheatin’, schemin’, stealin’ to survive.

I don’t want you, I don’t need you,

Hope I never have to see you,

So, goodbye.
